The Ferris wheel

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”
Albert Einstein

Expert hands guide the long paper cone into the spinning stainless steel cylinder. Wispy strands of spun sugar quickly gather until at last the white paper shaft has been transformed into a fragile stem for the pink bouquet of cotton candy.

Tiny hands eagerly reach for the sticky confection, and she clenches it tightly. But seven-year-olds can be a fickle lot and in an instant the candy is forgotten as she spots a clown wearing crazy big shoes. Crazy big. A term that serves her equally well to describe elephants, skyscrapers and clown shoes. Brightly colored sprigs of yarn sprout from the jester’s head; a ridiculously wide red smile stretches across his face. He winks at her, then tips his head back and laughs sending the sound dancing across the night air.

The child’s mother tugs at her hand urging her forward, and she follows reluctantly. They find their way through the crowd and as they round a corner the world is suddenly filled with the most magnificent sight. Fascinated, the youngster stares as the magical giant waltzes around and around in the night sky. Her little heart bumps her ribs as the twinkling lights on the whirling wheel beckon her.

The incredible beauty of the sight squeezes tears from her eyes. She has never seen anything like it in her life.

Her heart bounces along on the dizzying ride as she is swept up in a web of enchantment. Finally the Ferris wheel slowly spins down and stops--- breaking the spell. The child plops unceremoniously back to her mother’s side. It takes a moment for her to realize she never left the ground.

But while in the grip of imagination what a ride it was!

Imagination. Her refuge.

sometimes imagination is the key to happiness^^
unfortunately only children seem to have the privilege of hiding in their own imaginary world, and be allowed to do so...

@Jux--The trick is once you're an adult, you don't ask permission-- you just do it! ;)

@SS--Where would we be without it? Thank you for the kind words about my words. ;)
